Stronger Together: Advancing Heart Care in Nigeria Through Partnerships

On September 22, 2025, the Oraifite Interventional Cardiology Medical Mission came to a successful close at the Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital (DIOMH).

Powered by collaboration between the Cardiovascular Education Foundation (CVEF), VOOM Foundation, and the Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation (SEOF)/DIOMH, the two-day mission demonstrated the power of partnerships in transforming healthcare access and delivery in Nigeria.

Led by Dr. Obi Emereole, Dr. Ngwu, and Dr. Edafe, this program brought together interventional cardiologists from Nigeria and the U.S. to carry out 14 cardiac catheterization procedures, both diagnostic and interventional.

Conditions Treated:

  • Heart blocks (various degrees)
  • Cardiac rhythm and rate disorders
  • Heart failure
  • Myocardial infarction (heart attacks)
  • Coronary artery disease
  • Other ischemic heart conditions
  • Conduction disorders

Procedures Performed:

  • Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy with Defibrillator (CRT-D)
  • Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICD)
  • Pacemaker insertions

Why Partnerships Matter

Healthcare partnerships like this go beyond immediate impact. They:

  • Bridge knowledge gaps
  • Equip local professionals
  • Improve infrastructure
  • Bring world-class care closer to underserved communities

At DIOMH and through the support of SEOF, we’re not just treating disease — we’re investing in a healthcare system built on collaboration and sustainability.
